Laara E. Mixon

Laara Mixon is the owner and operator of Carden Consulting, established in 1997.  The Haida name she carries is "Kun G aadaas", which she inherited from her great grandmother.  Laara is a member of the yahgu ‘laanas clan from Masset, Haida Gwaii.  

Ms. Mixon specializes in Nation Building for Governance/ Institutional Development and Business/ Community Economic Development through supporting development of the capable governing institutions, strategic planning, policy, and systems development that builds upon traditional knowledge. A key component to her work has been the purposeful planning to enhance the authority and representation of Aboriginal peoples, the development of formalized knowledge and research through community owned tools that continue to build the capacity of Aboriginal peoples throughout BC and Canada. 

Ms. Mixon is currently completing her Masters Degree in Leadership, is a CTT Certified Consultant, an Associate Consultant with the Centre for Community Enterprise, and listed on the Business Development Bank of Canada’s Aboriginal Consultant roster.

Tawney Lem

BA in Political Science, UBC

Ms. Lem specializes in both Sustainable and Organizational Development.  Ms. Lem is the former Treaty Manager for the Hupacasath First Nation.  Tawney is a member of the Canadian Green Building Council and has assisted the Hupacasath First Nation as project manager for the next phase of their Tsu-ma-as Transformation Centre tourism development. She has also been working with Laara Mixon on several foundational projects (Aboriginal Tourism Opportunities Study, Cultural Protection Policy, and Governance Training and Policy Development).
